Ghosts

about

Until covid-19 threw a wrench into everyone's 2020, Play By Numbers had rehearsed and written and jammed together nearly every week since January 2013.

We had just completed setup of our rehearsal space into a live recording studio and were making progress with a new batch of songs to start performing live and demoing out when decided we should not be having regular rehearsals due to the pandemic on March 17th.

Ghosts is the first track we started fresh work on trading files back and forth.

Brad G started the production and used a loop of a vocal Carter had given him a few months prior.

Carter threw down guitars and keys, and the finished vocal on the track would end up being the first pass take during a weekend solo recording session.

Wayne and Carter engineered a social distanced drum tracking session in the Austin PBN garage, and Quinn tracked his bass at his Elgin house.

Bobby got his hands on the song and recorded the synth bass part and key solo in the ending of the song from California adding the final pieces of groove.

Mixed and Mastered by Play By Numbers, "Ghosts" is the first entirely in-house produced, engineered, and performed Play By Numbers track that we've done since our birth demos.

We are happy to share this track as a sign of fresh things to come from our collective hearts even as we are more separate than we've ever been.

lyrics

(Be that ghost right in front of me)

I can't tell where I've been
I've been singing along to something

I can't tell where you've been
I've been humming along to something

(Be that ghost right in front of me)

Send me anything a newspaper would
I need to feel less alone
I'm human
Send me anything a telephone might
I need to feel home tonight
I'm human

Send me anything a newspaper would
I need to feel less alone - I'm human
Send me anything a telephone might
I need to feel home tonight - I'm human

Send me anything like forever could
I'll get through this tonight
I'm human

Send me anything a telephone might
I need to feel home tonight
I'm human

Send me anything
Send me anything
